Forms and messages
Make sure every message and sign-up from your storefront reaches you, and know where to find each one.
You need: a working email address in your Shopify notification settings · no app · about 10 minutes.
Two kinds of forms
Section titled “Two kinds of forms”Alpha Start uses Shopify’s own forms, so there is nothing to connect. Each form is one of two kinds:
- Messages (contact forms) are sent to you by email. Keep the emails: they are your record of each request.
- Sign-ups (newsletter forms) add the customer to Customers in your Shopify admin, with consent to receive email marketing and a tag that shows where they signed up.
Every form in the theme
Section titled “Every form in the theme”| Form | Where customers find it | What customers enter | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|---|

Step 1. Set the email that receives messages in Shopify admin
Section titled “Step 1. Set the email that receives messages in Shopify admin”All messages from contact forms, call requests, price requests and service orders go to your store’s sender email.
- In your Shopify admin, open Settings → Notifications.
- In Sender email, enter the address where you want to receive messages, for example
hello@yourstore.com. - Click Save. If Shopify asks you to verify the address, follow the link in the email it sends.
Messages arrive as Shopify contact form emails. Reply to the customer’s email address from the message, or call the phone number they left.
Step 2. Find sign-ups in Shopify admin
Section titled “Step 2. Find sign-ups in Shopify admin”- In your Shopify admin, open Customers.
- Filter the list by Tagged with
newsletter(orprospectfor password page sign-ups). - Send them campaigns with an email marketing app such as Shopify Messaging.
Step 3. Turn the forms on in the theme editor
Section titled “Step 3. Turn the forms on in the theme editor”Each form is turned on where it lives:
| Form | Setting |
|---|---|
| Contact form | Page section → Add block → Contact form, on a page template. |
| Request a call | Header → Show phone numbers and Show “Request a call” button. |
| Found it cheaper? | Product → Price block → Show “Found it cheaper?” form. |
| Order a service, Consultation | Services and Service sections on the services templates → Show consultation card for the card. Order buttons appear on every service. |
| Newsletter | Footer → Show newsletter sign-up (Classic layout); Blog and Article sections → Show newsletter sign-up; Password section → Show newsletter sign-up. |
Spam protection
Section titled “Spam protection”Shopify protects contact, newsletter and comment forms with hCaptcha. It is on by default and works in the background: most customers see nothing, and suspicious senders get a challenge page before the form is sent. You don’t need to set anything up in the theme.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”Send a test message from your contact page and a test call request from the header. Both should arrive at your sender email within a few minutes. Then sign up with a test address in the footer and find it in Customers with the tag newsletter.
I don’t receive messages from the contact form. What should I check?
Section titled “I don’t receive messages from the contact form. What should I check?”Check the Sender email in Settings → Notifications and your spam folder. Messages come from Shopify, so add Shopify’s sending address to your safe senders if your mail service filters them.
Can I send call requests to a different address than other messages?
Section titled “Can I send call requests to a different address than other messages?”No. All forms in the theme use the Shopify contact form, which sends to one address. If you need a separate form with its own handling, use a form app such as Shopify Forms.
Can I add fields to the contact form?
Section titled “Can I add fields to the contact form?”Not in the theme editor. For custom fields, file uploads or multi-step forms, use a form app and add its block to a page. See Apps.
